While Andrew Scheer was in New Brunswick on Friday, he was able to pay his respects to a former colleague.
The Conservative leader attended former MP Greg Thompson’s funeral in Saint Andrews.
Scheer says he served with Thompson while he was veteran affairs minister.
“Every Member of Parliament has reason to meet with the minster from time to time. I had several issues from my own riding that he was extremely helpful on. I found him to be an absolute gentlemen someone who is really dedicated,” Scheer said.
Scheer says Thompson was the type of guy that you have a heated argument with about an issue, but when the House of Commons rose for the evening, he would go have a beer with you.
“Loud and proud about what he believed in and what he was passionate about but never took it to the point where it got personal so, I think that is why he earned the respect of everyone,” Scheer said.
We said goodbye to a very good friend today! A beautiful day and a beautiful service to tribute a great man! My thoughts are constantly with Linda and his loving family. We will miss you Greg! 1947-2019
