Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh made a campaign stop in New Brunswick on Monday to reveal a star candidate in Bathurst.
The candidate is francophone advocate Daniel Theriault.
“Daniel has fought tirelessly to protect the French language and promote Acadian culture. Now, he’s joining New Democrats to fight for the people of Acadie-Bathurst.” Singh said in a news release.
Singh was asked by reporters in Bathurst, N.B. why it took two years for him to visit the province since becoming party leader.
“I’m really sorry about that. It’s a mistake, I should have come out here sooner and I’m happy to be here now.”
Singh was asked when his meeting with Liberal leader Justin Trudeau over the blackface controversy will happen.
“I wanted to make one thing really clear. I didn’t want to be used as a tool to check off a list of steps for Mr. Trudeau to somehow exonerate himself. I made that a requirement. Now the ball is in Mr. Trudeau and his office’s court to organize the meeting.” Singh said.
Singh says he’s really proud of the candidates running in New Brunswick saying they are very passionate.
He says the NDP is ahead of other parties in terms of candidates nominated and on the list.
