A recent survey showed that the majority of New Brunswickers are in favour of mandatory vaccination.
The government has proposed a bill requiring all kids attending public schools of childcare facilities be vaccinated.
The bill would, however allow for medical exemptions.
The NB Pharmacists Association commissioned the survey which was conducted by Narrative Research as part of its Atlantic Quarterly Survey.
Results show that 88 per cent per cent of the 400 New Brunswickers asked were for immunization.
New Brunswick Pharmacist Association executive director, Paul Blanchard, says these results are meaningful.
“So that’s 63 per cent completely support and 25 per cent mostly support mandatory vaccinations in schools and day cares,” he says.
However, he says many have been very vocal online, claiming they don’t need or don’t trust vaccines.
Blanchard added that the World Health Organization recently announced a 300 per cent increase in measles cases over the last year.
He says the less people are vaccinated, the higher the risk of spreading diseases like the measles.
