Premier Blaine Higgs says healthcare is one of the key priorities for his PC government.
During a news conference on Tuesday Higgs said a nursing shortage in this province is going to become a major problem soon.
“It is projected that New Brunswick will experience a shortage of a minimum of 130 registered nurses each year over the next 10 years, that means that by 2028 there will be a deficit of about 1300 RNs in our healthcare system if nothing changes and something must change,” stated Higgs.
The Premier also says seniors care will be a big priority.
“We have 37 hospital beds per 10,000 citizens, New Brunswick has almost 50 percent more hospital beds per citizen than the national average and 30 percent of these hospital beds are taken up by seniors waiting for nursing homes, our seniors deserve better than a hallway of a hospital,” said Higgs.
No details or costs were given for fixing the healthcare problems during the news conference.
