The Fredericton Police Force says it has identified human remains found in the city’s landfill on Tuesday morning.
Spokesperson Mark Taylor says the man was over the age of 50 and known to police, but they are not releasing his identity right now.
Investigators believe the man may have been in a dumpster and transported to the landfill in a garbage truck.
Taylor says while foul play is not suspected, it has not been ruled out yet.
Police also note this matter raises the concern about people sleeping in dumpsters.
The man’s family has been notified about his death.
Just before 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Fredericton police were called to the city’s solid waste site on Alison Boulevard.
