Get ready to run, walk, roll or stroll at Rockwood Park on Saturday to raise awareness about mental health issues.
Tara O’Toole is with the Saint John Suicide Prevention Committee and says they want to make sure anyone who needs help is not afraid to get it.
“It is called the S.O.S walk/run and is to decrease stigma, raise awareness and encourage help-seeking behaviours so that being said we would like all parties to be encouraged on this,” stated O’Toole.
She adds “We want you to feel comfortable and confident reaching out asking for help but on the other end if you see somebody in distress we want to encourage and promote people to open that door of communication.”
You can register for the event at 8 O’clock on Saturday morning and the kids’ one-kilometre race starts at 9 and the five and 10 kilometres races begin for everyone else at 10 AM.
O’Toole says there will be bouncy castle and face painting for the kids and for the Zen folks, there will be Reiki, massage and Yoga, but you need to bring your own mat.
