The New Brunswick SPCA has confirmed they are investigating a dog bite attack in Mundleville, near Rexton.
Yvonne Kauf says on August 20th, her eight-year-old son, Max, went to a friends house with his sister before they went to their soccer game.
“Normally we drove with him to his soccer games, but on this day my mom worked until 5pm and the game was in St. Antoine. His friend said his family would take Max to the game, so we could come later. Max was with his sister at his friend’s house. Normally, they have the dog in the kennel when the kids are in the house. Max and my daughter sat on the couch to wait, while the other boy went to change his clothes for the soccer game. The dog came out and bit my son on his face. It is a pitbull husky mix.”
She says, “They took him to hospital in Ste-Anne. The biggest bite is directly under his right eye and he has a lot of cuts in his mouth. He lost teeth and he has a bite under his chin. He needed several stitches.”
Kauf says her son’s wounds are still healing He is also suffering from nightmares, “He screams at night, and he can’t sleep alone.”
She still has a long road ahead with her son needing dental work and help psychologically, “He has been traumatized.”
The family moved to Canada last year from Switzerland and they are originally from Germany.
A fundraiser has been set up to help the family with dental and other bills.
“It is a hard time, Max is not the same Max as before. People who know Max, like his teachers say the same. He is scared now.”
The New Brunswick SPCA couldn’t provide any specific details on the case.
There’s is no word as to what has happened with the dog to this point.
