If you are a kid in Grand Bay-Westfield and get caught by the Mounties wearing your bike helmet, helping someone across the road or carrying groceries, no need for alarm.
You will be rewarded with what are called RVCC Bucks from the River Valley Community Centre.
Recreation committee co-chair Brittany Merrifield says it is a great way to engage young people.
“We can meet the local kids, reward them for doing something good. We basically want to catch them being good citizens,” said Merrifield.
The RVCC Bucks can be used at first to purchase slush puppies or candy bags at the rec centre cafeteria. Once the bucks run out, officials will take a look to see how successful the pilot program is.
“If we feel it is worth continuing we might expand that. I am hoping to engage some local Grand Bay-Westfield businesses so the kids can redeem coupons at their places of business as well,” Merrifield stated.
The program will start on October 15th.
