Pope Francis has appointed a new bishop for the Diocese of Saint John.
Bishop Christian Riesbeck will replace retiring Bishop Robert Harris.
Riesbeck, who is 49 years old, became a bishop in 2014.
He studied political science in Ottawa before attending the Saint Augustine Seminary of Toronto.
Riesbeck was awarded a licentiate in canon law by the Saint Paul University of Ottawa. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Ottawa in 1996.
In 2003, Riesbeck was incardinated in the Society of Apostolic Life Companions of the Cross.
He served as a parish priest for seven years at the Queen of Peace parish in Houston, Texas.
In 2010, Riesbeck was appointed as chancellor of the archdiocese of Ottawa. He has also held the office of judge of the Regional Tribunal.
