The riding of Fundy Royal has gone from red to blue.
Conservative Rob Moore is their MP once again, beating out Liberal incumbent Alaina Lockhart who upset him in 2015.
He greeted supporters at his victory party at the Sussex Golf and Country club in Picadilly on Monday night.
Moore said he will be a strong proponent of affordability.
“It’s become harder and harder for families to make ends meet, for seniors to make ends meet. We need to get back to taking less out of people’s pockets and leaving them more. That’s something I’m going to be a strong proponent of,” Moore said.
Moore believes unpopular Liberal policies contributed to his win.
“A lot of what the government was doing was very unpopular here. Whether it was Energy East pipeline or the carbon tax. People had their fill of Liberal policies,” Moore said.
“Policies that seem more focused on big urban centres and not our rural reality in Fundy Royal. I’m looking forward to putting those issues front and centre.”
As of 2 a.m. Tuesday, with 195 out of 198 polls reporting, Rob Moore had 20,953 votes over Alaina Lockhart with 11,557.
Liberal incumbent Alaina Lockart posted this statement on Facebook early Tuesday morning:
“Congratulations to Rob Moore on his election to represent Fundy Royal in Ottawa. Thank you to the people of Fundy Royal for the honour and privilege of representing you these past four years. I’m proud to be the first woman ever elected in this riding and of everything we’ve accomplished, together.”
