Premier Blaine Higgs was in Sussex last night watching the federal election results as Fundy Royal went conservative with the election of Rob Moore.
The Progressive Conservative Premier was asked his thoughts on the Liberal minority government election results.
“So here we have now a separatist party showing up in Quebec but out west, their economy has been shut down, so are we going to see two fractions created because of this Trudeau government that basically put our country in a very perilous situation? I am concerned about that and what it means for Atlantic Canada,” stated Higgs.
Higgs is referring to the rise once again of the Bloc Quebecois and the fact the Liberals were shut out in both Alberta and Saskatchewan.
He was also asked why he thought there was not a red tide sweep like in the last election for the Atlantic region.
“I think it seemed to be a bit of a wave on a ten year PC government and it was time for a change, but I think people got more change than they bargained for and this is a push back showing more of a traditional approach here in the Maritimes,” he said.
Higgs was also asked if he had any concerns about a potential Liberal coalition with the NDP and Greens.
“Our ability to fund and have an equitable system for all is at risk and reality will set in when you know at some point the lights start to dim and we say we can’t keep this open and we can’t do that, there is another Greece,” stated Higgs.
He is referring to the collapse of the Greek economy a few years ago which lead to the nation having to be bailed about by the European Union.
