Oscar-winning directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman capture the ascent and career of American musician Linda Ronstadt, and what made her a legend.
From her musical beginnings singing with her family to her reign as the “rock-queen” of the 70’s and 80’s, Ronstadt was a powerhouse musician. She racked up five platinum albums back-to-back from 1974-1978 and able to sing in multiple genres, including rock, country, light opera, and Latin.
Performance footage and appearances by Ronstadt’s friends and collaborators, including Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne, more than provide the receipts of her chameleonic talents throughout the documentary.
However, Ronstadt’s role as a pioneer for women and their right to be artists in the male-dominated music industry paved the way for future female musicians, and was also an early advocate for human rights.
Despite losing her voice to Parkinson’s Disease, Ronstadt’s voice lives on in her albums and songs, which her multi-generational fans, who keep her voice alive for generations to come – the mark of a true musician.
