Lots of ghosts and goblins will be out Thursday night looking for treats and candy for Halloween.
The Saint John Police Force is offering some safety tips to make sure everyone has a safe night.
Spokesperson Jim Hennessy said kids should make sure their costume is a good fit to avoid tripping.
Hennessy said they should also avoid wearing masks with their costume if possible.
“I know that some of them do come with a mask, but it really makes it tough to see. Your peripheral vision gets cut off in a real big way with a mask on,” said Hennessy. “If you can do the makeup thing instead, we encourage that.”
Hennessy said trick-or-treaters should stay in groups and younger children should travel with an adult.
They should also use reflective tape, stay in well-lit areas and take a flashlight with them.

Many kids will be excited to dig into their sweet treats, but Hennessy said they should wait just a bit.
“Before you jump into the treats and the sweets, make sure you bring it home, have a look through it, make sure there’s nothing in there that shouldn’t be in there, and then indulge,” he said.
With rain in the forecast, police anticipate more people than usual will be travelling around in vehicles.
Hennessy said drivers need to obey the speed limit, keep their lights on, and put their phones away.
Homeowners can also play a part in keeping the ghosts and goblins from getting hurt by cleaning up their yard.
“Maybe a hose laying there or a hockey stick or whatever the case might be, there’s a lot of kids running on Halloween night,” Hennessy said.
Police are hoping for more treats than tricks on Halloween night and Hennessy said they do not expect any issues.
“Most of the adults had their party last weekend and enjoyed Halloween. We didn’t have any big headaches last weekend and we certainly don’t anticipate any [Thursday] night.”
