With heavy rain and high winds in the forecast for parts of Quebec, many parents expressed a hope communities would postpone Halloween and trick or treating by a day.
In Montreal and surrounding communities, they are getting their wish.
Montreal’s Mayor Valerie Plante tweeted “I invite Montrealers to celebrate Halloween on Friday because of the rain and strong winds.”

Rainfall warnings are in effect for the Montreal area with winds up to 90 kilometres an hour.
The city of Ste. Julie also postponed trick or treating due to heavy rain. On their website, a news release states, “Considering the safety and comfort of children and teenagers wishing to roam the streets to collect sweets, we decided to postpone the event to Friday. Normally, the rain would not have made us change the date of the event; it’s really the exceptional nature of the precipitation that drives us to do it,” said Mayor Suzanne Roy.
