After much anticipation, the Saint John Family Resource Centre has launched a brand new website.
The interactive site outlines all of the centre’s programs and some of the projects they are working on.
Silvia Borsic, executive director of the centre, said their old site was “very stale” and did not change as their programs did.
“A lot of our individuals who come here now, they probably would go to a website before they would see a flyer, so we thought it was important to go through the type of media that most of our participants would use,” said Borsic.
The new website has “quite a story” behind it, Borsic said. As a non-profit organization, she said they do not have a lot of funding so they tried to launch the site several times as they received bits of money.
After a first aid session about two years ago, Borsic said a father asked what he could do to help the centre.
“I thought for a moment and I said ‘well, what do you do?’ And this dad was actually a web designer. So I said ‘yes, can you join our web team? So bringing him on with his technical skills really, really made the difference,” she said.
Program information on the website includes topics like parenting techniques, prenatal care, postnatal
care, literacy in children and active lifestyles to sharing and learning new recipes and positive mental
health.
In addition to the programs available, users will find details on the seven playgroups offered around the
Greater Saint John Area, an interactive up-to-date calendar of events, and volunteer opportunities.
“We have been anticipating this new website for a long time, and we are thrilled to be able to provide an easy to use website with a clean and uncluttered design to inform the public of all the programs and playgroups we offer,” said Heather Macartney, board member for the centre, in a news release.
“This is an invaluable tool that connects us to the community that the Saint John Family Resource Centre serves.”
In the future, Borsic said people will be able to sign up for programming through the website.
