The harbour master at Port Saint John will lead a national board for the next two years.
Captain Chris Hall was recently elected president of the Master Mariners of Canada.
“I was quite proud actually,” Hall said during a recent interview. “It’s something that felt very good for me.”
The not-for-profit organization is made up of seagoing, shoreside and other related marine professionals.
Hall said the group focuses on three pillars: education, advocacy and awareness.
“We meet on a regular basis and discuss topical things in the marine industry, all based on our three pillars,” he said.
Hall is a 21-year member of the organization and has served six years on its board, including a two-year term as vice-president.
“We have an excellent team of people across the country, very dedicated and engaged professionals, and I’m just one cog in the wheel,” he said.
Hall also serves on the board of the International Harbour Masters Association and is the vice-chair of the Saint John Seafarers Mission.
