Hollywood power player Elizabeth Banks, (Pitch Perfect 2) brings a powerful feminine touch to the blockbuster genre by directing the reboot of Aaron Spelling’s television smash Charlie’s Angels (1976-1981), which was also adapted as a feature film in 2000 starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu as the titular Angels.
The Townsend Agency, created and run by mysterious multi-billionaire Charles, “Charlie,” Townsend, has expanded on an international scale. After an engineer blows the whistle on a new green energy technology that could potentially be weaponized, the Angels get down to business and race against the clock to prevent the technology from falling into the hands of evildoers.
Kristen Stewart and newcomer Ella Balinska are veteran Angels Sabina and Jane, while Naomi Scott, (Aladdin) is Elena, the whistleblower and new Angel recruit sets the story in motion. Banks pulls double duty as the team’s Bosley, a former Angel herself, with Patrick Stewart and Djimon Hounsou, (Gladiator) as fellow Bosleys. Noah Centineo, (To All the Boys I Loved Before), Sam Clafin, (The Hunger Games) and Jonathan Tucker, (Kingdom) also star.
This next generation of Charlie’s Angels lives up to the legacies of previous Angels and puts James Bond to shame with thrilling spy capers, super cool gadgets, and exotic locales.
