The Tire and Rubber Association of Canada recently conducted a survey on winter tires and found Atlantic Canadians understand the benefits of having winter tires.
It showed that 91 per cent of drivers in Atlantic Canada now ride on winter tires – up from 73 per cent in 2014.
Nine-in-ten of them say their tires have saved them from a hazardous driving situation like loss of control or collision.
Of those who choose not to change their tires, most believed all-season tires were ‘good enough’
Others say they don’t drive much in the winter while few said it just wasn’t in their budget.
The association notes winter tires better retain flexibility in cold weather, providing more traction when temperatures fall below 7 degrees.
