A special fundraising dinner was held on the weekend in Quispamsis to help get a family in Lebanon to come to this region to re-unite with family from Syria.
Kendra Ball was the organizer of the Alsaj family dinner.
“A year and a half ago we decided we were going to sponsor them so we are pretty much near the finish line at this point almost we are just waiting for them to get their flights and everything booked to come to Canada,” stated Ball.
Ball says the dinner included a speech from Premier Blaine Higgs who talked about how important immigrants will be for the future of New Brunswick and they were pleased with the money raised thus far.
“Including the $3,200 raised on Friday night we are at about $28,000 and we know of about another three or four thousand dollars coming in by the end of the year.”
Ball says the Alsaj family should have no problems fitting in as the Hleilos family has.
“There is a lot more multiculturalism here in and around Saint John and The Hleilos children go to Samuel De Champlain school and that school has become so diverse and it is definitely a good way to expose young children to other cultures, stated Ball.
