A deal has been struck to keep the Milltown Irving open.
The store was faced with closure after the previous owner didn’t want to continue running the business.
A Charlotte county small business owner with a lot of convenience store experience is taking over the store.
Greg Hooper tells us he was approached by people from Irving Oil and they were able to make a deal.
He plans to add more products and do some hiring.
“We are going to be putting in a meat shop and fresh produce, Pizza Twice and a takeout and we are going to carry a lot more groceries. We are probably going to be hiring anywhere from 6 to 8 more employees,” Hooper said.
Hooper owns Uncle Mayn’s in St. George and his family have owned Hooper’s convenience store in Black’s Harbour for over 30 years.
He tells us he was pleased with the support from Irving Oil to get the deal done and from the town of St. Stephen with compliments for the town’s mayor, Allan MacEachern.
“They’ve got a good mayor there and he really wants businesses there. He’ll do anything that he can.” Hooper said.
Under new ownership, the Milltown Irving re-opens on Thursday morning at 6 a.m.
