The Official Opposition has given its response to the Higgs Government Speech from the Throne and took the opportunity to slam the government for inaction over the past 12 months.
House leader Denis Landry says this government has no plans for the economy and he is calling on the Premier to do all that can be done to help all regions of the province including the north. The Glencore Smelter is closing in Belledune with a loss of 420 jobs.
Landry is urging the Premier to reach out for help with the economy.
” We need to energize the economy in all regions of New Brunswick and I mean we should listen to all kinds of businesses, not just those who can afford to pay lobbyists and have access to the Premier’s office.”
Landry also took a swipe at a comment made yesterday by the premier referring to a certain shipyard.
“There is such as thing as being a little too cozy one company, I think we all know who the premier was referring to when he slipped and said our shipyard,” said Landry in a veiled reference to the former Irving Shipbuilding in Saint John.
The Liberal’s also went after Higgs on broken promises regarding health care wait times, an all-party committee on climate change and having an officer dedicated to climate change.
Landry said, ” We had a year of the Premier racking up the frequent flyers points and using his fair share of jet fuel to head west for photo opportunities with other conservative premiers in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Alberta.”
