Rian Johnson cleanses his palate after Star Wars: The Last Jedi, with a whodunnit murder mystery that upends audiences’ expectations and leaves them on the edge of their seats.
When successful murder mystery author Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead in his study the morning after his 85th birthday party, private detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is called in to investigate the dysfunctional Thrombey clan.
However, suspects are a plenty, with no lack of motive for wanting Thrombey dead among his offspring, grandchildren and in-laws (Chris Evans, Jaime Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Katherine Langford, Jaeden Martell, Riki Lindhome). With the aid of Harlan’s caretaker Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas) and Detective Lieutenant Elliot (Lakeith Stanfield), Benoit must uncover the truth before the culprit escapes justice.
Knives Out’s twists, turns and colourful cast of characters holds ground with the murder mystery cases of Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot and Jessica Fletcher and is a worthy heir apparent to board game and 1985 cult classic, Clue.
Knives Out is in theatres now.
