Flu season is here but how long will it last and how severe will it be this winter?
Australia recorded one of its worst flu seasons ever this year and the land Down Under is often used to predict what may happen here.
Moncton pharmacist Cynthia Ferguson says about 2,000 Australians were hospitalized for the flu in June 2018 while that number ballooned to more than 31,000 in June this year.
“If we all work together, we don’t have to follow that pattern because flu is preventable with a highly safe and effective vaccine,” she notes.
Ferguson says the flu shot is your best defence against getting sick and not only are you protecting yourself but your loved ones as well.
Only about 34 per cent of Canadians aged 18 to 64 got the vaccine last year.
She adds pharmacists are your most accessible health care provider and getting a flu shot is more convenient than ever.
