A highly disputed campground development in Pointe-de-Chene has been put on hold.
The so called ‘mega-campground’ initially aimed at creating nearly 700 sites. That number has now been reduced to 111.
As the owner of the land, the Shediac Parish decided to revise the project following feedback from the community.
Venerable Brent Ham says a number of residents raised concerns about the environmental impact of the project.
“It’s a major shift from the idea of having these large RVs, more down to the idea of camp sites,” he said.
The Shediac Parish says they are prioritizing a more environmentally-friendly plan.
Ham says the new project could include limitations on things like campfires and RVs.
However, the project will remain on ice until a developer come forward.
