Stephan Drolet has been named the next chief of the Saint John Police Force.
The Saint John Board of Police Commissioners announced the appointment Friday.
“Chief Superintendent Drolet was selected for his deep policing experience, his vision for delivering public value in the provision of policing services and for his proven leadership,” said board chair Edward Keyes in a statement.
“We look forward to having him lead the Saint John Police Force.”
Drolet has been with the RCMP for 27 years, spending most of his career in British Columbia.
He is currently the deputy criminal operations officer for the province of B.C. and previously served as the officer in charge of the Burnaby detachment.
“I look forward to working alongside my new colleagues, community members and the board to deliver policing services to this remarkable community,” said Drolet in a statement.
Drolet will assume the role from interim chief Bruce Connell on Feb. 24, 2020. Connell came out of retirement in April 2018 to replace outgoing chief John Bates.
The police commission said it received more than 70 applications from candidates across Canada.
