A fire at the TRACC Tire Recycling Plant in Minto has resulted in an air quality advisory for the surrounding area.
Anywhere between 15 and 20 fire departments responded to the blaze, which started around 10:30 p.m. Friday night.
Officials say the fire was not in the building, but in the 5 acre yard where many tires are stored.
The fire is now contained but is still burning, and will likely burn for days if not weeks.
People in the Minto and Chipman areas are advised to avoid the smoke by staying indoors, especially infants, pregnant women, seniors, smokers, and anyone with respiratory issues.
Symptoms of smoke conditions could include irritated eyes and throat and a shortness of breath. If you are having difficulty breathing, contact a doctor.
Crews are on the scene of an industrial fire in Minto. People in the Minto and Chipman areas are advised to avoid the smoke. Turn off air exchangers, stay indoors and avoid outdoor activities. Monitor for updates and follow the advice of local authorities.
