Popular uptown Saint John lunch spot, Urban Deli, will be closing its doors.
The business announced the news through a post on its Facebook page late Friday afternoon, saying that its last day of business will be Christmas Eve.
“It is with mixed emotions that after an amazing ride of 10 years that we announce the retirement of the Urban Deli brand effective Tuesday, December 24th, 2019. Our building on 68 King has been sold,” the post read.
“When we opened in 2009 we set a goal for ourselves and that goal was to work hard for 10 years. We are so fortunate to have realized our set goals and in our time frame.”
The lengthy post concludes by saying that the location will reopen as a new eatery under the building’s new owner with a new name. The new owner has decided to rehire the Urban Deli staff
“It is Christmas and our staff will be well taken care of…of course,” the post concluded. “The new owner will be opening under her own brand name Up Town Eatery and has offered to keep the team – the team that was our magic!”
