It is that time of year when Canadians look for the hottest post-Christmas deals.
But police say Boxing Week is also an opportune time for fraudsters to do their work.
The RCMP say you should make sure the website you are buying from is legitimate.
Fraudsters can easily create websites which look like legitimate manufacturers, they say.
The sites offer deep discounts to encourage buyers, but you might receive counterfeit products, unrelated goods or nothing at all.
Police also recommend inspecting the website thoroughly as counterfeit sites often have spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.
They also say it is a good idea to shop with a credit card as you are offered protection and may receive a refund.
A good rule of thumb, police say: if the asking price of a product is too good to be true, it is.
