The lack of light during the winter days can bring a change in how you feel.
It’s known as Seasonal Affective Disorder, a type of depression related to the changes in seasons according to Dr. Megan Feng, a primary care physician.
“It is hard because a lot of times you wake up in the morning and it’s dark, you come home in the afternoon and it’s still dark, and in between it’s sort of gray and gloomy a lot of times and people come in feeling down,” says Feng.
Feng says using a seasonal affective disorder light can be beneficial.
“Light therapy is something that people use to help re-regulate your body sleep-wake cycle and getting that stimulus of bright light in the morning can help improve your mood,” says Feng.
If light therapy isn’t enough for you, try taking a winter vacation to a sunny climate, even for just a couple of days, says Feng.
