The new year doesn’t bring any tax increases for the residents of Rothesay.
Mayor Nancy Grant says they were able to hold the line on the tax, water and sewage rates for 2020.
“Our general fund operating budget went up by 2.7 per cent but since we have the assessment increase of 2.8 per cent it wasn’t necessary to increase our tax rate to cover that,” Grant said.
The cost of protective services increased by 5.8 per cent for 2020.

In 2019, the town of Rothesay became a provincially-designated age-friendly community.
“In May, we received our provincial designation as an age-friendly community and we opened the age-friendly community centre, the Rothesay Hive, in partnership with the Regional Y and that’s proved very popular,” Grant said.
Mayor Grant tells us last month the town became a member of the World Health Organization’s Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities.
