Winter seems to be getting into high gear this month in southern New Brunswick after a relatively snow-free December.
During snowy conditions, a Michelin driving expert urges drivers to be vigilant.
Carl Nadeau says drivers should avoid leaning toward the steering wheel to help improve their visibility.
“The whole weight of your body pretty much rests on the steering wheel. So it limits the movement and it makes it really hard especially if the car starts sliding because you are losing control,” says Nadeau.
He says adjust your seat so that your entire foot hits the pedals and not just the tips with your hands in the 9-and-3 position on the steering wheel.
If you find your vehicle fish-tailing, Nadeau says slow down, avoid making abrupt changes and try to drive in a straight line.
For drivers with an all-wheel drive, he adds it doesn’t make you invincible since the vehicles tend to be heavier and don’t slow down or make turns as well as a smaller vehicle.
