Power has been restored in Quispamsis and Rothesay following a lengthy outage Friday.
The lights went out around 4:30 a.m. after two poles snapped on Vincent Road in Quispamsis.
Sheila Lagacé, a spokesperson for the utility, said what caused the two poles to break is still a mystery.
“One likely snapped before the other and created tension on the line that made the second one snap,” said Lagacé in an email. “We are still investigating the issue to try to find out the cause.”
Lagacé said staff transferred the bulk of the affected customers to an adjacent feed in order to minimize the interruption.
Nearly 1,000 homes and businesses were without power at one point. Most had their power restored by 8:30 a.m. Friday.
The remaining 150 or so customers — remained without power until the two poles were replaced. Power was restored by 3 p.m. Friday.
Vincent Road was closed to traffic near Kenneview Drive for part of the Friday.
