Louisa May Alcott’s literary masterpiece, beloved by generations of readers, is adapted once again for a new audience by actor-director Greta Gerwig.
The film takes a new approach to telling the story of the March sisters, ambitious Jo (Saoirse Ronan, Lady Bird), traditional Meg (Emma Watson), sweet Beth (Eliza Scanlen, Sharp Objects) and dramatic Amy (Florence Pugh, Midsommar), and their neighbour Theodore, “Laurie” Lawrence (Timothee Chalamet, Call Me By Your Name).
As the story jumps between the past of the March girls’ coming of age and present day of their young adulthood, the flashbacks and crosscutting of youthful hijinks and hard choices bring a fresh spin to the well-known tale.
The Marches are heroines who still resonate today, examining what it means to be a woman in the world and how one can make her own way, on her own terms.
Little Women is in theatres now.
