The Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to divide their time between the United Kingdom and Canada but a lot of questions remain answered.
The Monarchist League of Canada says the cost of security for Harry and Meghan while here will undoubtedly become an issue.
Spokesperson Barry MacKenzie says we’re certainly used to royal tours and some criticism surrounding them.
“But this is unprecedented in the sense that we’re talking about an extended period of time. More importantly, we’re not entirely certain in that extended period of time the Duke and Duchess are going to be undertaking royal engagements,” he notes.
MacKenzie believes Canadians will be justifiably concerned about costs if Harry and Meghan come here as private citizens.
Some estimates suggest security for the royal couple in Canada could cost as much as $10 million a year.
MacKenzie wonders what kind of occupations Harry and Meghan will pursue in their independent lives and he highly doubts she’ll return to an acting career.
In the recent past, he adds the Earl and Countess of Wessex pursued careers apart from their royal duties.
According to MacKenzie, the Royal Family hasn’t faced a situation like this since the abdication of Edward VIII in the 1930s.
