The federal government says more troops are on the way to help cleanup efforts in Newfoundland.
A massive storm on Friday dumped 75 centimetres of snow in some areas in a 36-hour period.
There are still a number of power outages following Friday’s storm, and a state of emergency continues.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says that municipalities are working hard to remove snow to allow emergency services through, and are asking motorists and pedestrians to stay off the roads.
A message from Newfoundland’s Municipal Affairs and Environment office says first responders have reported that they are being hindered by residents operating snowmobiles on roadways.
The City of St. John’s says all available city plows & resources are opening up roads.
Government Offices in St. John’s will stay closed as the cleanup continues.
The city reports that gas stations are now allowed to open for the purposes of fuel for snow clearing, while pharmacies can open from noon until 7 p.m. for emergency medication needs.
