A bill to create a national pharmacare program is the first thing the federal NDP says it will bring forward when Parliament resumes next week.
Leader Jagmeet Singh spoke in Ottawa on Thursday, adding the Liberal government is all talk and no action on this.
“We’ve seen them move very quickly to defend the profits of the pharmaceutical industry. We haven’t seen them move to protect families that can’t afford medication,” said Singh.
“This is a concrete step forward and I put it as a challenge to the Liberal government, if they’re more than just about the pretty words and they want to actually make this happen, here is a step forward that we can make it happen. I also want to work with other party leaders.”
Singh adds he sympathizes with voter skepticism considering Liberal and Conservative cuts to health care over the years.
