In December, New Brunswick paramedics were celebrating reclassification to medical science professionals and four weeks later, they are defending it.
CUPE filed an application with the Labour and Employment Board to block reclassification.
More than 800 provincial paramedics are represented by CUPE.
Reclassification Committee Chair Joel Mattatall calls this move “disappointing.”
He says it’s not paramedics against CUPE but, the government defending the position on their behalf.
“Not only are our dues being taken to oppose this change but, tax dollars are going to be spent defending paramedics,” Mattatall said.
Mattatall says paramedics have until February 3rd to make a petition in opposition to CUPE’s claim.
Should reclassification proceed, paramedics will bargain with the New Brunswick Union.
