An 11-year-old Riverview boy, who loves to dance, will get the opportunity to train with some of the best this summer.
Carson Estabrooks will spend July in Toronto at Canada’s National Ballet School.
He says he developed an interest in dance when he was just three years old.
“My mom put me in Dance East. I tried tap, ballet and other genres. When it came to ballet, I really liked it. Now I go to the Atlantic Ballet School and it is a lot of fun,” he said.
Estabrooks not only loves to dance. He divides his training time in the studio, as a dancer, and on the ice, as a member of the PeeWee Riverview Blues hockey team.
“I’m at ballet four days a week, and I am there around two hours a day. Sometimes I have to miss hockey, but I go back and forth,” Estabrooks says.
He encourages other kids to give ballet a try, but says they should be ready for a challenge.
“Ballet is a lot of fun, but it’s not easy. I think they would really like it,” he said.
A fundraiser has been set up to help with costs associated with the program costs for the Toronto camp. It can be found on the Dance Carson Dance page on Facebook
Prior to his trip to Toronto, you can catch Estabrooks in the upcoming Billy Elliot musical being performed in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the Neptune Theatre. It runs from April 14th to June 7th.
