The anti-prejudice campaign against poverty is receiving support from various community organizations, including the United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick.
CEO Debbie McInnis says it’s always possible that any one of us could get injured tomorrow and have to go on disability which is very challenging to live on.
“You don’t know what’s going to happen to you in the next year or two. So don’t just make that judgement that it would never happen to you or anyone in your family.”
She wants social assistance recipients to be able to earn more so they can better support themselves until getting full-time work.
McInnis believes the best way to understand poverty is to meet someone who is struggling and try and walk a mile in their shoes.
The Common Front for Social Justice launched a campaign this week to reduce myths and misconceptions about poverty.
