A new café in uptown Saint John that gets patrons to channel their inner artist is now open.
After a quiet soft launch last week, The Art Warehouse is officially open to the public.
Located at 120 Prince William Street, the café is a licensed bar, café and drop-in art studio where people can paint whatever they want, with their friends, date, family or on their own. Pricing is based on the size of the canvas you’re using.
“The basis of the model is a drop-in art studio. You can come in when you want,” said owner Hazel Cochran in a previous interview with Huddle. “There are easels and paint supplies available. There’s your canvas and paper and you just work away.”
Cochran got the idea to open an art café in the city after visiting one on a trip to Central America with her family.
“We went to this little café and it was like any other café … but they also offered this unique art menu when you and pick what you wanted to work on and do that,” she said.
The Art Warehouse is open to anyone of all experience levels, and also to those who just want to enjoy a drink.
“You don’t necessarily have to be an artist or have come in here and paint, but to just be surrounded by it,” said Cochran.
