In Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), directed by Cathy Yan, (Dead Pigs) and written by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee), Margot Robbie unleashes the fully formed, chaotic Harley Quinn whom audiences caught fleeting glimpses of in Suicide Squad (2016).
After kicking the Joker to the curb, Harley aims to get her groove back and live her own independent, cheerfully crazy life. However, things get complicated when Gotham City crime lord Roman Sionis, (Ewan McGregor, Trainspotting), aka. Black Mask, orders a hit on a young girl, Cassandra Cain, (Ella Jay Basco, Veep).
Harley and a group of female vigilantes, club singer Dinah Laurel Lance (Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Friday Night Lights) “Black Canary,” mafia family progeny Helena Bertinelli (Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) “Huntress” and detective Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez, Fearless) must join forces to protect Cassandra and bring the Black Mask down.
The R-rated Birds of Prey take names, leave no prisoners and enforce their own unique form of justice. Who needs Batman to clean up the streets of Gotham when these women are leading the charge?
Bird of Prey is in theatres now.
