N.B. Seeks Input On Pesticide, Herbicide Use

A new committee of MLAs is seeking input on pesticide and herbicide use in New Brunswick.

The standing committee on climate change and environmental stewardship met for the first time this week.

They announced public hearings on pesticide and herbicide use, including glyphosate, will take place in late March.

Glyphosate is a herbicide used for a wide variety of purposes in forestry and agriculture, and for weed control in industrial, commercial and domestic settings.

“While certain studies have indicated that glyphosate may not pose a cancer risk to humans at current exposure rates, many New Brunswickers remain concerned about its use,” said the province in a news release.

Anyone wishing to make a presentation must notify the Office of the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly by calling 506-453-2506 or emailing leg-consultations@gnb.ca before March 13. Those who would rather submit a written brief have until March 20.
