Film history was made at the 92nd Academy Awards last night with director Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite winning Best Picture.
Parasite is the first international film in the history of the Academy Awards to win Best Picture and was the first South Korean film to be nominated for Best International Feature film, which it also won. It was only the sixth film to be nominated in both the Best Picture and Best International Feature Film categories.
Hildur Guðnadóttir also made history as the first woman to win Best Original Score.
Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor for his performance of Arthur Fleck/”The Joker” in Joker and Renee Zellweger won Best Actress for her performance of legend Judy Garland in Judy. Laura Dern won Best Supporting Actress and Brad Pitt won Best Supporting Actor.
Parasite won the most awards with four wins: Best Picture, Best International Feature Film, Best Director for Bong Joon-ho and Best Original Screenplay. First World War epic 1917 won three of its nominated categories while Ford v. Ferrari, Joker and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood each won two categories.
