If you’re travelling outside Canada for a vacation or other reasons this winter, it’s best to plan ahead.
A survey shows few of us seek any travel advice which can sometimes lead to problems.
Health professionals urge you to research your destination as much as possible and decide what you want to do.
Moncton pharmacist Cynthia Ferguson says it’s wise to talk to a professional since various vaccinations are often suggested or even required for some countries.
“So when you prepare, you have to know that some travel vaccines take a few weeks to take effect. So it’s important to ensure that you receive your vaccines at least six to eight weeks in advance so that they are effective.”
Ferguson says it’s also a good idea to think about traveller’s diarrhea which is quite common and taking an antibiotic or a vaccine which can reduce the risk.
If you interact with animals, she notes a rabies shot may also be required.
