Passengers flying out of the Saint John Airport (YSJ) will soon have a new way to get work done on-the-go.
USTATION, a membership-based company that wants to create a network of inspiring, tech-enabled spaces and technologies to help people boost their productivity, announced this week that it will be installing one of its first UPOD at the airport sometime this month.
The UPOD, a little bigger than a phone booth, is a self-contained, 4’x4’ mini-workspace equipped with the technology, comfort, and privacy of a full-sized office – convenient for mobile professionals who need to get work done while on the move.
“We are really excited about the placement in the airport where our current and potential members who are busy professionals can make productive use of in-between time,” said USTATION founder and CEO Glenn Hicks, in a statement.
“We understand how frustrating it is to lose valuable work-time when you’re travelling for business. The UPODs helps to remove some of the barriers experienced when trying to work in public spaces like an airport.”
The Saint John Airport UPODs will be equipped with high-speed internet, video conferencing capability, a computer and a full-size monitor where users can connect their devices or log in to their applications and get work done while waiting for their flight.
Travellers may book the UPODs workstation via the USTATION app and must pay to use it in 30-minute increments. It can be accessed by both members and non-members of USTATION.
“We’re excited to partner with USTATION, an Atlantic Canadian startup based in Saint John,” said Saint John Airport president and CEO Derrick Stanford in a news release.
“I’m pleased that the Saint John Airport has been selected as the first of three locations for the UPODs prototypes that will test this innovative concept. The UPOD will be incredibly convenient for the thousands of business travellers who fly through our airport every year.”
