Northwestern Ontario Senator Lynn Beyak has apologized for posting racist letters on her website.
In the Canadian Senate today Beyak said to members in the upper chamber that the letters were “ill-considered”.
In her statement, Beyak said ‘You’re never too old to learn and to grow,”.
She goes on to say “while my intent was never to hurt anyone, I see now that my actions did not have their desired effect, which was to promote open and constructive dialogue.”
This comes as the Senate Ethics Committee is considering to suspend her for the second time because it found she did not complete the remedial measures she was asked to complete.
