North America’s largest seafood expo has been postponed amid the evolving situation around COVID-19.
Thousands of seafood professionals were expected to attend the three-day Seafood Expo North America in Boston starting March 15.
But Diversified Communications, which organized the expo, announced Tuesday the event would be postponed.
“This decision has been difficult because of the major importance of this event to the industry,” the company said in a statement.
“We heard from those of you who were concerned about health, safety and travel restrictions, and given the short time before the scheduled event date, and upcoming logistics, we have determined that postponement at this time is unavoidable.”
Organizers said they still hope to have an event later this year and expect to announce more details in the next month.
More than 22,000 seafood professionals attended the 2019 event to discover suppliers, products and trends, and to create business connections.
Among the attendees were representatives from more than 100 New Brunswick companies, who participate to “reinforce relationships with existing customers, to generate new customer leads, and to secure sales,” according to a news release from the provincial government.
New Brunswick exported nearly $1.7 billion worth of seafood products in 2018, with the top products being lobster, salmon and crab. The top export destinations included the United States, China and Japan.
