The provincial Liberal leader is urging the premier to call byelections in two vacant ridings.
“It has been almost six months since Brian Gallant resigned his seat in Shediac Bay-Dieppe,” said Kevin Vickers.
“The people of that riding and the people of St. Croix deserve representation in the New Brunswick legislature, especially in light of the intention of the premier to move forward with drastic changes to our health system.”
Vickers, who is currently without a seat, will be running for the Liberals in Shediac Bay-Dieppe.
The St. Croix riding was held by Greg Thompson prior to his death in September.
Under the Elections Act, Premier Blaine Higgs must call byelections for both ridings by March 11.
Back in December, Higgs said he would set dates this month.
Vickers is concerned the government will use a loophole to delay the byelections.
He promises the Liberals will introduce legislative amendments in the next session to close the gap.
