The interim leader of the New Brunswick NDP is calling for Premier Blaine Higgs to resign.
Mackenzie Thomason says Higgs has made several “significant errors” which have eroded the trust of New Brunswickers.
Thomason points to controversial health-care reforms and the ongoing labour dispute with nursing home workers, among other things.
“The premier has shown that his, and his cabinet’s decisions, are not only unpopular, but have even caused division and departures within his own caucus,” said Thomason in a news release.
Former deputy premier Robert Gauvin resigned from cabinet over the proposed health-care reforms.
“If you can’t even hold the support of your cabinet or your caucus, on important decisions that impact New Brunswickers, then clearly you are not the leader we need, nor the leader we deserve,” said Thomason.
Voters could soon head to the polls if next week’s provincial budget does not pass.
