The “spring ahead” time change is much harder on our bodies than the “fall back”, according to a sleep expert.
Dr. Julie Carrier says the adjustment puts stress on our biological clocks.
She says research shows that negative consequences stem from advancing clocks by an hour.
“They include an increase in car accidents that may be due to the fact that people are not only losing one hour of sleep but also could be late for work because they need to wake up earlier on their biological clock,” she notes.
Carrier says some reports also suggest an increase in health issues such as cardiovascular disease.
She says going to sleep earlier and waking up earlier are more difficult for our biological clocks compared to gaining one hour in the fall.
Carrier adds changing our clocks twice a year is simply not positive for us.
